Good Will Hunting Analysis

Image
The drama and romance movie,  Good Will Hunting,  is about a young genius, Will, who instead of using his talent for the better, chooses to involve himself in gang violence and becomes a janitor at MIT. During his time as a janitor, he solves difficult math problems that are left unsolved. The question arises as to who is solving all of these nearly impossible questions. Once the professor at MIT finds out that it is Will solving all of these problems, the professor decides to help Will use his God-given talent to use. There comes a catch though. The professor tells Will he will need to go to therapy once a week. Will does not want the pity that the professor is giving him his helping hand and decides to reject the initial offer. After much discussion, Will later agrees to work with the professor.      As Will starts to work with the professor, he does everything the professor asks in his meetings, but as soon as the meeting is over, Will goes back to his life o...

Poetic Film 'Terror Some May Say'

Image
Poem: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LMSCiK_2a5fjS7RTRxhsjW0t18SnCyup1g_WIveSSJs/edit  My inspiration for this film was actually the begining scene of The Batman movie. I wanted to base my poem on something creepy and eery. When I was writing my poem I tried my best to have as many rhymes as possible. I think rhyming simply makes everything sound better. Once I finished writing this poem I went out to film. When I was filming I found it difficult to video every shot as there was nobody filming me. I was able to use this to my benefit though, and I found different spots to lay the camera to record me. I then combined these shots to make it all fit together. Once I put them all together, I realised I created a work of art that I have never done before in my two years in film. After the film was finished I decided to mess around with the colors by making everything black and white, giving it a more creepy feeling. I then added different sound effects in to make the film even cree...

Art Show Blog Post

Image
Overall, this was one of my favorite films I have made this year. I think working with a larger group made it a lot more fun as we were able to generate more ideas and be more creative. We worked really well together and never stopped brainstorming ideas. We were able to use many different shot types and techniques to better improve how this film came out.   In this shot, we decided to show certain lighting. We wanted to make it seem as though there was an interrogation going on. We thought that it would be interesting to shine a light on one side of the boy's face as if he was being interrogated. This came at very well and I am glad we chose to be creative with this shot.  In this shot, I chose to change the lighting of the film as it was a flashback memory. I tried to dim the lighting, and make it seem more like a memory in the past, rather than a live event. I think this decision really added to the film as it was a creative touch that showed more detail to what was g...

Winter's Bone Mise en Scene

Image
In class, we watched Winter's Bone. I found the film to be very interesting, but I would not consider this to be a film I'd watch again. I did not like the setting nor the lighting of the film. I found the setting very boring as it was just the trees with dead leaves. I thought the darkened light hurt the film as it just made everything so much more subtle and boring. I also did not like how quiet the film was. I felt that you had to figure much out on your own just by watching without much listening. Although I did not like the film very much, these are some pretty cool shots I posted down below. The first shows much Mise en Scene using the color tone, and the set design. Here, we see clothes hanging on the line, a bike in the back, and lastly nothing but hills and the woods. The second shot has a very cool framing using a bit of symmetry as well. I think it is really cool showing the older sister, who is the tallest, to stand in the middle while the two younger siblings that ...

Tennis Documentary

Image
Tennis Documentary By Dylan Grodner, Starring Nicole Dgani     Nicole and I are both very good friends and we wanted to work on a film together. Turns out, although we are very good friends, we didn't know each other's favorite hobby. It ended up taking some time to think of what we like to do and what we could make a film on. After thinking about it we chose Nicole's favorite thing to do, tennis. It really didn't take much planning besides coming up with questions because they were all things Nicole could answer on the spot which is why we didn't focus too much on a script. Although there was not much planning, there were some questions asked that even Nicole hadn't thought about. When asked about her  inspiration for tennis, she first answered "I don't know. I don't think I have one". Once she thought about it more though, she came to the conclusion that it is between playing with her friends, her father pushing her to play and try a new sp...

Future Film - Short film exercise for festival

Image
Future Film By Dylan Grodner  Overall, I really think this film came out to be the way we wanted. First, working as a team is always fun. It is fun because it is great to work with people but it is also great to brainstrom and have other creative minds involved in the process of making a film. In this film, as you can see in the script above, we wanted to be slightly different from other films we have made together in the past. We ended up making a film without words and very minimal description of what was going on. Our goal was for the viewer to come up with what was going on in this film. We started coming up with other different ideas to become unique compared to other films we have made. We wanted the theme to revolve around a scout watching a basketball player. We knew this film had to be something in the future and we tried to potray a highschool basketball player making it to the pros. Once we figured all of this out, we got to work. Looking at this finished film now,...
