3 Point Lighting

For this shot in Rocky, the 3 point lighting creates a sense of loneliness to me because the fill light doesn't look to be very bright, and it looks as if the key light and the back light are brighter. The shot size is a close shot which is allows the person watching the movie to see the emotions on Rocky's face. Behind Rocky, the door and light are also blurry, which allows us to really focus on Rocky himself. With this, they are able to make it feel as if the room is dark, and that he is now lonely and staring off into the distance.

In this shot, the fill light and the key light are used to show that Rocky is doing something. We see that his eyes are focused on something and that he is in the process of working on or making something as well. The back light isn't very bright because whatever is behind Rocky is dark. This looks to be a medium close up shot, once again, focusing on Rocky's facial expressions. One of the things I like a lot about the lighting in this shot is that there looks to be shadows bouncing off of Rocky's neck.

In this shot, the lighting is focused on Micky's face. The background is almost pitch black, allowing the audience to just focus on Rocky and Micky's faces. The director uses this lighting effect to create a sense of sadness because we see the light hit Micky's face where he has a look of pain. He directs the light away from Rocky, focusing mainly on Micky allowing the audience to express the same feelings as Rocky.
