Documentary
When I first heard that we were going to make a documentary film, I knew exactly who I was going to interview. I wanted to interview my brother and make a basketball highlight documentary for him. I thought that this could be very cool because over the Summer I watched the Michael Jordan documentary, and felt that I could do something similar to that with my brother.
It was pretty easy to come up with questions because I play basketball too, and I know what it feels like to be the leader on the court. With that in mind, you must have a certain personality that fits the role of the leader. I used that thought process to come up with questions to ask my brother. Some of the questions that I asked were "who do you look up to?", "where do you get your motivation from?", "what is it like to be apart of a team?", etc.
I really enjoyed making this film because it felt like I was the director, writer, cameraman, and the editor. This was also one of my longer films, so it really felt like it was a documentary. It was such a fun experience, that during my brain break I thought to myself "ha, there is no way I'm taking this break! I have to work on my documentary!!"
The most successful part of this documentary was being able to combine my audio and visuals together in a nice way. I love how you can see my brother play basketball, but at the same time he is answering different questions. I added in a bit of music too, to make the person watching it get pumped up as well. I really don't think there is a bad part to this film; I think everything I put in was a success. My goal was to make it come out similar to the Michael Jordan documentary and I think I accomplished this.
I learned that when interviewing someone, there will be a lot of mess-ups, but at the end you can really turn it into something special. I also feel that this is a documentary that will stick with my brother for a long time, because it is an entire highlight documentary of him! Overall, I really did have a lot of fun working on this project and would love to work more on things like this in the future!
