Basketball Poem "Keep Pushing"
When I first thought about this film, I really wanted to try something different than usual. I wanted to push myself to make the best film that I possibly could. I thought of so many different things, but then, I thought of a basketball film with an inspirational poem in the background. I had inspirations of my own when making this film. One specific inspiration I had, was Kobe's "Dear Basketball". Kobe was a great man, a great athlete, and a great writer. His "Dear Basketball" poem really hit me, and I thought to myself "what can I do to make a great film, but also reflect on my love for basketball?". So, I decided to make a poem to get other people that share a love for basketball-inspired. Making them want to work hard. Having them want to succeed.
One thing I pride myself on is my ability to rhyme and make, specifically poems so interesting, but at the same time, have a story being told. I really had a fun time being able to write the poem, plan out and video the shots, and finally edit it all together!
One thing I was very excited about in this particular film was being able to see the final outcome. I put so many different tracks together of different sounds, including basketball court noises, music, and myself reading the poem, that I really wasn't sure how the poem would turn out, and I am very happy with the outcome.
In this film, I didn't apply many match cuts like I usually do, but one thing that I tried to do and was a challenge was having the sunlight hit in the best possible spots. Although that was a challenge, I really wanted to challenge myself with being creative on the making of this film, the steps, and editing. I wanted to write a good and inspirational poem, that would also sound interesting too, which I think I accomplished. Another thing I tried to do when planning the film, which was also a hard challenge was connecting the perfect shots with the poem. I had to plan out where each shot was going to go and what line would match with it. Lastly, I wanted to use almost everything I have learned in editing this year, using transitions, color combinations, audio, etc. One thing I am very happy about is the outcome of the flashback that I made. I was expecting this to be extremely hard, which it was, but I was able to get it done by changing the audio, shot, and color combination, making it look more of a grey-type flashback color that one would see in movies.
Overall, I am very happy to have accomplished the goal that I set for myself and I feel that it was also extremely fun to be wondering what the final outcome would be, rather than just knowing it from the start!
