Fishing With Eduardo!

Image
When I was first thinking about what to have this film about, I wanted it to be something different, creative, and fun as it was the last film of the year. I watched a bunch of different internet videos as examples. I was debating if I should make a blog about my daily life or some sort of podcast. I was thinking about making a basketball film, but I have already done that multiple times. I was also thinking about doing a basketball podcast, which would have been a lot of fun but I thought to myself, "what is one thing I haven't made a video on all year?". I thought about making a video on teaching how to fish as it is a  recently new hobby I have shown interest in. Lately, I have been fishing with my neighbor every weekend. At first, I thought that I should be teaching fishing, but then I thought about my neighbor, Eduardo, an expert at fishing. When he was going through the steps, I was even learning new things, so this was a really good thing that he was able...

Sound Of Metal

Image
Sound Of Metal, directed by Darius Marder is a movie about a heavy-metal drummer, Ruben, that loses everything when he loses his hearing. His entire life has been made up of drumming, and although he is still able to drum, he is not able to hear the music playing. This was a very sad and emotional movie as Ruben expresses the mental pain he is feeling, acting like he has to start his entire life over.     The genre of this movie is all about music and drama. The plot of this movie starts off with Ruben smashing the drums, but as time goes on, the drumming starts to fade away until there is nothing but a muffled sound. He meets with doctors and many other people to help him deal with his hearing loss, helping him learn sign language and getting used to living this new life. This is such a realistic movie that I almost thought it was a true story. It really felt like it was an entire learning experience for Ruben.        ...

Basketball Poem "Keep Pushing"

Image
When I first thought about this film, I really wanted to try something different than usual. I wanted to push myself to make the best film that I possibly could. I thought of so many different things, but then, I thought of a basketball film with an inspirational poem in the background. I had inspirations of my own when making this film. One specific inspiration I had, was Kobe's "Dear Basketball". Kobe was a great man, a great athlete, and a great writer. His "Dear Basketball" poem really hit me, and I thought to myself "what can I do to make a great film, but also reflect on my love for basketball?". So, I decided to make a poem to get other people that share a love for basketball-inspired. Making them want to work hard. Having them want to succeed.          One thing I pride myself on is my ability to rhyme and make, specifically poems so interesting, but at the same time, have a story being told. I really had a fun time b...

Light Motivated Film (Man At The Door)

Image
When I was first thinking of what to make this film about, I really didn't have any ideas. After thinking some more, I realized that I could make a horror film using scary lighting. Overall, I think the film came out really good and the lighting that I used helped create more of a scary image.  1. The first scene of the movie starts off with the boy playing video games. We see the fill light from the TV reflect off of the boys face and the rest of the room. What's cool about this scene is that the TV is changing colors, so we see different light contrasts here. The fill light is also focused on one half of the room, as we can see that the other side of the room is darker. There is also a key light used here pointing directly at the boys face, lightening it up compared to the rest of the room. 2. In this scene, we see a hard fill light pointed up at the boys face. This shot creates the illusion of mystery because he is wearing a...

3 Point Lighting

Image
For this shot in Rocky, the 3 point lighting creates a sense of loneliness to me because the fill light doesn't look to be very bright, and it looks as if the key light and the back light are brighter. The shot size is a close shot which is allows the person watching the movie to see the emotions on Rocky's face. Behind Rocky, the door and light are also blurry, which allows us to really focus on Rocky himself. With this, they are able to make it feel as if the room is dark, and that he is now lonely and staring off into the distance.  In this shot, the fill light and the key light are used to show that Rocky is doing something. We see that his eyes are focused on something and that he is in the process of working on or making something as well. The back light isn't very bright because whatever is behind Rocky is dark. This looks to be a medium close up shot, once again, focusing on Rocky's facial expressions. One of the things I like a lot about the lighting in this...

Documentary

Image
When I first heard that we were going to make a documentary film, I knew exactly who I was going to interview. I wanted to interview my brother and make a basketball highlight documentary for him. I thought that this could be very cool because over the Summer I watched the Michael Jordan documentary, and felt that I could do something similar to that with my brother.      It was pretty easy to come up with questions because I play basketball too, and I know what it feels like to be the leader on the court. With that in mind, you must have a certain personality that fits the role of the leader. I used that thought process to come up with questions to ask my brother. Some of the questions that I asked were "who do you look up to?", "where do you get your motivation from?", "what is it like to be apart of a team?", etc.       I really enjoyed making this film because it felt like I was the director, writer, cameraman, and the editor. This was al...

60 Second Film Challenge

Image
I wanted to make a 60 second film about rushing to get ready for school. I chose this topic because I wake up too late and am always rushing to get ready for school, so this is something I could relate to. When I first wrote the script, I had many more actions than there were in the final film. I realized that my film was going to be way over the 60 second mark and that I had to cut about half of my script out. I also realized that it would be better if I added more camera angles into the film, which also helped with jump cuts too.      The hardest part of this film was getting it to 60 seconds. It took many edits and cuts, but in the end I really think it came out amazing. Although I had to take away half of the film, it still came out to be what I imagined and I had a lot of fun with this challenge.  Script:  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TdyZQRusSnMkQ7auhLeJnynGaMKOb5ei7r-WmS9uJXY/edit  Storyboard: https://docs.go...
